Japanese drum experience session

On September 15th, a Japanese Taiko Drumming Experience was held as part of the Jogon-in Temple Artist in Residence program. The powerful drumming performance that reverberated throughout the temple grounds was performed by members of the Azuchi Nobunaga Shutsujin Taiko group , based in the local town of Azuchi. The Azuchi Nobunaga Shutsujin Taiko group, which carries the name of Azuchi, a place associated with Nobunaga, performs at local festivals and events, and their powerful performance captivated the audience.

After the performance, an experience corner was set up where artists from overseas and local children got to actually play the drums and interact with each other. The artists, who were trying out Japanese drums for the first time, were thrilled! It was impressive to see them beating out the rhythm together with the children, all smiling and excited.

This social gathering was a valuable opportunity to connect people of all ages and nationalities through "sound." Participants commented, "I'll never forget the feeling that it resonated with me," and "It was fun to be able to communicate without words."

Jogan-in will continue to connect art with the local community through such exchanges.
