Staying at Jogon-in Temple: Creation begins
The Jogan-in Temple in Azuchi-cho, Omihachiman City, has begun an "Artist in Residence" program for international artists. This year, five artists from Spain and Poland are participating, working together until October 8th. The results of their work will be exhibited at the Jogan-in Temple International Art Festival (October 25th - November 23rd).
Katarzyna Gronty from Poland said, "I'm interested in immersing myself in a temple with layers of history," and plans to use family photos collected from local residents in her work. Lluís Estopiñán from Spain praised Jogan-in as "a building with artistic elements," and is planning a work using blueprints.
Yukku Keralt and Anna Salas also commented, "We are happy to be able to create in such a wonderful place," and upon arriving they interacted with children and local residents through a performance of the "Azuchi Nobunaga Battle Drum" and a drumming experience.
This year marks the fourth year of the residency program. In addition to international exchange, preparations for the autumn art festival have begun in earnest, while also fostering new encounters and dialogue with local people.
