⬤ About the Artist

Luiza Filatova is a contemporary painter who lives and works in Uzhhorod, Ukraine. She graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv. Originally from Zaporizhzhya in southeastern Ukraine, she grew up and began her artistic career amid Russia’s invasion of her country and the Russo-Ukrainian War. Filatova often chooses simple subjects such as portraits and landscapes that show a slight sense of detachment without losing their optimism. In recent years, the landscape of her native city has become a central subject in her work, elevated to the status of a symbol. From 2022 to 2024, she undertook artist residencies in Japan, based primarily at Jogonin Temple while also working in Nagahama. These experiences strengthened the meditative quality and tendency toward simplified form in her work.
