Miyuki Yamada is an artist who uses the sun as a motif to express how people live, their emotions, and their souls. Living with multiple chemical sensitivity and deeply affected by the climate, she gazes at the sun with longing and creates paper cuttings in red, white, and black. Using these paper cuttings as original images, she expands her expression into video and print; for this exhibition, she presents that world through printed works.

Art is a way of life! After graduating from university, I got a job at a major construction company. Later, I worked as an architectural designer at a real estate company. However, I inhaled insecticide at a construction site and developed chemical sensitivity. Although I received treatment, I was unable to return to the construction site and worked at a facility for people with mental and physical disabilities, but the symptoms continued to appear and I became disabled. I believe this disability is deeply connected to environmental issues and is a cry from the Earth. Because my symptoms are greatly affected by the climate, I yearn for the sun and began to express people's emotions and souls using the sun as a motif. Since I cannot use chemicals, I create my works using paper cutting. I am challenging myself to express myself using only the minimum colors of red, white, and black.
