Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1980, Daisuke Yoshikawa is a nihonga painter who depicts familiar plants, the changing seasons, and the vitality of life. For this exhibition, he constructed the shoji screens themselves from the frames up, creating a spatial work in which the lattice and plants resonate with one another. He has exhibited at Kyototen, the Soga-kai Exhibition, and the Spring Soga-kai Exhibition, and received the Seiho Prize at Kyototen in 2007 and 2013.

⬤ Message
I mainly create works inspired by plants around me. This time, I chose to paint on shoji screens, so I incorporated plants entwined with their lattice into the work. Incidentally, I made all the frames myself.
Even in the same familiar place, we can see different plants flourish and fade over the course of a year. Some bloom and provide nectar for insects, while others bear fruit eaten by people, birds, and animals. Their vitality inspires deep respect and affection in me.
In this painting, I chose to depict each plant at the stage I found most interesting. I hope you enjoy it.
